We in Butterfly Outdoor Adventure Were Happy to Guide The Guardian Through the Via Dinarica Kosovo

We in Butterfly Outdoor Adventure were happy to guide The Guardian magazine on a journey through the Kosovo section of the Via Dinarica — a trail of wild beauty, deep history and unforgettable human stories.

Their writer experienced some of our most iconic stages: the misty bunkers near the Albanian–Kosovo border, the colourful meadows above Gacaferi, the dramatic limestone ridges of Hajla and Gjeravica, the warmth of local guesthouses, and the living memories carried by the people who call these mountains home.

Along the way, he shared moments with our founder and guide Uta Ibrahimi, learning about the mountains, the culture, the history of the region, and Uta’s own journey — from growing up during the war to becoming the first woman from the Balkans to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks.

The result is a beautiful story about Kosovo’s Accursed Mountains, its people, and the magic of hiking the Via Dinarica.
