The High Scardus Trail is a long-distance hiking trail, which leads on 20 daily stages through the untouched mountain world of the Western Balkans, from Kosovo via Albania to Northern Macedonia. As you hike, you’ll encounter flocks of sheep guarded by the fierce Sharplaninec dog and may spot rabbits, foxes, and even a distant brown bear! Itinerary
Airport – Prishtina
Day 1: Arrival and Prishtina Cultural Trip
Arrive at Prishtina International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Meet your guide for a briefing before enjoying a cultural trip in Prishtina, where you’ll explore the city’s vibrant history. Services include shuttle service and dinner in Prishtina, with an overnight stay at a hotel in the city.
Luboten Hike (KS-MK)
Day 2: Luboten Hike (KS-MK)
After breakfast, depart from Prishtina at 6:00 AM, heading to Luboten, the starting point for your hike. Your luggage will be transferred to the Mountaineering Hut in North Macedonia. The hike, lasting 6 to 8 hours, is moderate to difficult, starting at an elevation of 1,100 m and culminating at Luboten Peak, which stands at 2,484 m. You will cover a total distance of 14 km with a 1,500 m ascent. Services include the summit experience and luggage transfer, with dinner and an overnight stay at the Mountaineering Hut.
Hike to Livadica Lake (MK-KS)
Day 3: Hike to Livadica Lake (MK-KS)
Following breakfast at Luboten Hut, you’ll hike toward Kosovo, passing through Livadica Lake at 2,470 m. Enjoy lunch by the lake before continuing on to Brezovica. This hike will take approximately 6 to 8 hours and is considered moderate. You will start at 1,700 m, covering 13 km with a 1,050 m ascent and a 900 m descent. Services include lunch at Livadica Lake and luggage transfer, with dinner and accommodation at Lubinje Guest House.
Kobilica Hike (KS-MK)
Day 4: Kobilica Hike (KS-MK)
After breakfast at Lubinje Guest House, begin your hike toward Kobilica Peak, which rises to 2,528 m (optional summit). The trail crosses into the Macedonian side of Sharr. This hike also takes about 6 to 8 hours and is moderate in difficulty, starting at 1,100 m. You will cover 9 km, with a 1,500 m ascent and a 920 m descent. Services include lunch at Kobilica Pass and luggage transfer, followed by dinner and accommodation at Vejce Hut.
Vejce to Bozovce (MK)
Day 5: Vejce to Bozovce (MK)
After breakfast at Vejce Hut, set off toward Bozovce village, hiking under the high peaks of Sharr. This hike lasts around 6 hours and is considered easy, starting at 1,600 m. You’ll cover 13.5 km with an 850 m ascent and a 1,000 m descent. Services include lunch on the way and luggage transfer, with dinner and accommodation at Bozovce Hut.
Karanikolla Lake to Zaplluzhe (KS)
Day 6: Karanikolla Lake to Zaplluzhe (KS)
Enjoy breakfast at Bozovce Guest House before hiking toward Karanikolla Lake and then to Zaplluzhe village in Kosovo. This hike will take about 6 hours and is easy, starting at 1,300 m. You’ll cover a total distance of 16 km, with a 110 m ascent and an 810 m descent. Services include lunch on the way and luggage transfer, followed by dinner and accommodation at Bjeshket Agroturizem Hotel.
Prizren City Tour
Day 7: Prizren City Tour
After breakfast at Bjeshket, drive to Prizren for a city tour. You’ll spend around 4 hours exploring the rich history of the city, with additional free time to wander. Services include luggage transfer, with dinner and accommodation at a hotel in Prizren.
Departure to Airport
Day 8: Departure to Airport
Following breakfast at the hotel in Prizren, transfer to Prishtina Airport for your departure.
