NORTH MACEDONIA: A COUNTRY WITH ENDLESS MOUNTAIN PEAKS
You may have heard about famous Ancient Macedonia, and even though there are many differences with the current state, still North Macedonia offers many wonders for enthusiast explorers. When you hear about North Macedonia the top thing that comes in your mind undoubtedly is the spectacular Ohrid Lake, preserving a unique aquatic ecosystem that is of worldwide importance, with more than 200 endemic species. It is one of Europe’s deepest and oldest lakes. Astonishingly the lake has never been frozen. Mountains represent extraordinary natural beauty, with snow peaks, waterfalls, and traditional villages for some of the most people are known as “Switzerland in the Balkans”. North Macedonia was variously controlled by the Greeks, Romans, Bulgarians, Byzantines, Serbs and the marauding Ottoman Turks who have done it rich and diverse in culture and history.
