Butterfly Outdoor Adventure
November has been quite a month … busy and wonderful and full of news and possibilities.
A stream of journalists have come to Kosovo and the region this month. The continuing theme here for the last half year has been a desire–from the international travel media–to discover this area and include it in future stories. This is a win-win-win. It is good for us because the whole travel industry here gets exposure. It is good for the travel publications because they get information about places they don’t know yet. And, mainly, it is good for future visitors because they learn more about the exciting places we have in this region and how they can best enjoy them.
In this vein, Kosovo has had mentions in stories from The New Times, Paste magazine, and Lonely Planet magazine. There was also great news from the region about the Via Dinarica hiking trail, which runs through Kosovo. The trail and Kosovo were included in National Geographic Traveler magazine’s “Best of the World” Destinations for 2017.
All of this is also fun and wonderful for Butterfly, of course. The region’s momentum has helped us communicate with companies outside of the Balkans. We have, for instance, recently finalized a group tours in 2017 with a UK-based operator and will soon be spreading the word about our beautiful country to a whole new groups of visitors and friends.
Finally, in the immediate future–December–I will travel to the Himalayas for four weeks to train at high altitudes and extreme winter conditions. I am always looking for ways to challenge myself AND provide a better product for future clients. You can be sure that I will send lots of pictures and posts from the mountains.

Magazine Story: Hiking across Macedonia: finding remote contentment
Lonely Planet, U.S. & UK
‘One of the reasons I love hiking in this area is because you stay in the clouds and on some of the highest summits in the Balkans,’ said mountaineer and guide Uta Ibrahimi, the owner of the Kosovo-based outfitter Butterfly Outdoor Adventure (butterflyoutdoor.com), as we reached Korab’s apex. ‘You just ride the peaks that run between three countries – at a sustained 2500m – and stay there… looking out on the beautiful world below for days and days and days.’
