Butterfly Outdoor Adventure
Balkan Outdoor Experience becomes Butterfly Outdoor Adventure.
Why the change? It is simple: After a dozen years managing major marketing campaigns in Kosovo, Flutura (Uta) Ibrahimi, whose name means butterfly in Albanian, made an executive decision. Run to the light. Her light? Exploring the beautiful landscape throughout her home, Kosovo, a small and mountainous spot on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe. But, if she was going to do this, she wanted to do it without the constraints on individuality. If one doesn’t share her spirit, then what is the purpose anyway?
Balkan Outdoor Experience was fine … but it is the name my father would have named this company. With Butterfly Outdoor Adventure, it is time to fly … without excuses.

… Not surprisingly, I click immediately with Uta Ibrahimi, a 32-year-old outdoor lover whose life passions take flight from Kosovo’s wild and undiscovered summits. Ibrahimi takes adventurers like me to experience her country’s high peaks or single-track mountain biking through her tour company, Butterfly Outdoor Adventure. She sports mirrored sunglasses and tattoos and has edgy and defining style points punctuated with her signature boyish bangs. Well-known in outdoor communities throughout Kosovo, she’s also an outspoken member of the LGBT community in a country that is “still progressing,” as she describes it….

‘Stand anywhere in Kosovo and you will feel the pull of the mountains. This small, diamond-shaped country is almost completely surrounded by majestic peaks, making it perhaps one of Europe’s most surprising adventure sports destinations. Whether you prefer to take in the scenery while gripping the handlebars of a bike, or while zipping through the air high above a canyon or galloping through a lush mountain clearing, there’s plenty to offer even the most daring outdoors enthusiasts.
….. Creative upstart Butterfly Outdoor Adventure (boexperience.com) also offers some outside-the-box packages, such as a hiking and yoga trip to the top of the 2403m Hajla peak on the Montenegrin border. The trip includes hearty homemade meals and an overnight stay in a mountain lodge maintained by local mountain expert and environmental protection advocate Fatos Lajçi (+386 49 204 421).’

Paste magazine, U.S.
‘Kosovo might be the world’s youngest country but that doesn’t mean the tiny territory doesn’t pack as big a punch as its neighbors. Nestled between the Dinaric Alps and the Sharr Mountains, this Western Balkan adventure playground offers gorgeous landscapes, dense culture, and a lack of huge crowds or conveyor-belt tourist traps.
There are three unique aspects for travelers to consider when they visit Kosovo. First is the incredible access to nature. Second, the tangible living history that resides in towns and villages. Finally, these two aspects combine to form an old world community bond that still pervades many aspects of life here. The intersection of these traits is obvious in a city like Prizren for instance, which is often referred to as the country’s cultural capital. It also happens to be at the center of some of the best hikes on the entire Balkan Peninsula.’

NATURE THERAPY: An exciting partnership with Kosovo’s National Autism Association
Natural Answers for Children with Autism
A walk in the mountains is not just for landscape photo-ops, it can also help people with autism find relaxation.
On Friday 21 October we had the opportunity to share something with a group of young people that we’ve known for a long time: the incredible therapeutic benefits of nature. That day we took a group of six kids from the National Association of Autism on the first of what will now be monthly hikes. It is hard to say who had more fun: the kids or us!
For some, even the ride on the bus — kindly donated by Saba Group — was a special treat. But the biggest smiles surely came when we started our hike through Germia Park.

FEATURED GUEST: AMBASSADOR BARBARA BARRETT
We ask, our clients shares their experiences with us
What surprised you most about the country when you first arrived?
I won’t soon forget the food. I had the most extraordinary dinner the first night at a classic Kosovo restaurant near my hotel; a creamy, cheesy, Kaymak-inspired dish topped with mushrooms. It was heavenly! I also enjoyed the fresh and clean delicacies shared by Uta at our surprise mountaintop picnic.
I was happy to see the energetic youth motoring around the main square, the music and the balloons; inducing everything from giggles to belly laughs. I was most pleased to see evidence of the intense belief in independence and the people’s desires for the future of their independent nation.
